Corporal John Peat

20 Sep 1944

John Peat, son of John and Alice Peat and husband of Annie Peat, of Warton, Lancashire, enlisted in The Border Regiment and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Corporal Peat successfully completed Glider training and was posted to 1 (Airborne) Battalion, Border Regiment. He took part the Battle of Arnhem, Operation Market Garden.

Cpl Peat died of wounds in the St Antonius Hospital at Utrecht on 20 September 1944, aged 27, and was buried in Utrecht (Soestbergen) General Cemetery.
