Private John A McCloy

John Arras McCloy was the son of Hugh and Jean McCloy, of Stranraer, Wigtownshire. He enlisted in the King’s Own Scottish Borderers and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Private McCloy successfully completed glider training and was posted to C Company, 7th (Airborne) Battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte McCloy was killed in action on 23 September 1944, age 27, and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
