John Hunter was born and lived in Roxburghshire. He enlisted in The King’s Own Scottish Borderers and volunteered for Airborne forces.
Lance Corporal Hunter successfully completed glider training and was posted to HQ (Signals), 7th (Airborne) Battalion, The King’s Own Scottish Borderers, and took part in Operation Market Garden, (Arnhem).
L/Cpl Hunter was killed in action between 23 and 24 September 1944, aged 28, and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
