Major John A F W Bampfylde

John Augustus Frederick Warwick Bampfylde was the son of the Hon Francis Warwick and Francis Bampfylde, of North Molton, Devon. He was granted a commission and volunteered for airborne forces.

Major Bampfylde successfully completed his glider training and was posted to 12th (Airborne) Battalion, Devonshire Regiment and took part in operation Overlord (Normandy Landings).

Maj Bampfylde was killed in action on 12 June 1944, aged 32, and was given a field burial at Amfreville and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France, on 20 June 1945.
