Corporal John F Tapping

01 Apr 1915 - 24 Mar 1945

John French Tapping was the son of James Frederick and Ada Louisa (Nightingale) Tapping, of Waddesdon, Buckinghamshire. He enlisted in the Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry and volunteered for airborne forces.

Corporal Tapping successfully completed glider training and was posted to 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry and took part in Operations Overlord (D day landings) and Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Cpl Tapping was killed in action on 24 March 1945, age 30, and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln, Germany, and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany on 22 April 1947.
