John Edward Hulme served with Airborne Forces during the Second World War. After joining the Army, he transferred to Airborne service in 1943 and joined C Company,13th (Lancs) Parachute Battalion.

Private Hulme took part in the Normandy campaign following the D-Day landings on 5-6 June 1944. After returning to the UK, he returned to action with the 6th Airborne response to the German counter-offensive in the Ardennes during Winter 1944-5, fighting in the Battle of Bure.

After a short period of respite, 6th Airborne returned to action for the Rhine Crossing, during Op Varsity. Pte Hulme was wounded in action during the operation.

After the war John fought with the Northumberland Fusiliers in Korea and Kenya.
