Private John Campbell

18 Aug 1944

John Campbell was the son of Robert and Jeanie Campbell, of Springside, Ayrshire. He enlisted in the General Service Corps, transferred to the Coldstream Guards and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Campbell successfully completed his glider training, and was posted to C Company, 7th (Airborne) Battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers and took part in operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Campbell was killed in action on 18 September 1944, aged 22. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
