Jason Barnes enlisted into the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in December 1999.
On his first posting he was attached to 1st Battalion The Princess of Wales Royal Regiment and served in the Balkans in 2003 and on Operation Telic in Iraq in 2004.
Corporal Barnes was attached to 2nd Battalion The Parachute Regiment (2PARA) in 2008 and deployed on Operation Herrick VIII.
Cpl Barnes was killed when his Ambulance Vector was hit by a mortar attack in Kajaki, Afghanistan, whilst he was helping evacuate injured comrades after an enemy attack on 22 July 2008,
