Private James Wells

20 Sep 1944

James Wells, son of James and Mary Wells, of Glodwick, Oldham, Lancashire, enlisted into the Border Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Wells successfully completed his Glider training and was posted to S Company 1st (Airborne) Battalion, The Border Regt. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Wells was killed in action on 20 September 1944, aged 23. He was originally given a field burial with two others near the Van Borsselenweg Utrechtseweg crossroads, Oosterbeek, and reinterred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 3 September 1945.
