James Robert McBryde was the son of William Orr and Jeanie Kerr McBryde; husband of Elisabeth Joan McBryde, of Bowdon, Cheshire. He was granted a commission in the Border Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.
He was attached to 6th Airborne Division, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).
Capt McBryde was killed in action on 18 July 1944, age 35, and was buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
