Gunner James Muir

James Muir was the son of William and Margaret Muir, of Clathick, Perthshire and the husband of Helen Muir, of Cathcart, Glasgow. He enlisted in the Royal Artillery and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Gunner Muir successfully completed glider training and was posted to 1 Airlanding Light Regiment, Royal Artillery, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Gnr Muir was killed in action in a slit trench in the area of the Old Church, Oosterbeek on 23 September 1944, aged 31. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
