Private James Morton

22 Sep 1944

James Morton was the husband of Hannah J Morton, of Benwall, Newcastle-on-Tyne. He enlisted in the Royal Army Service Corps and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Private Morton successfully completed glider training and was posted to Fitter Platoon, 250 (Airborne) Light Composite Company, Royal Army Service Corps and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Morton died of wounds on 22 September 1944, age 33, near Divisional HQ at the Hartenstein Hotel, and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
