Private James McInaw

James McInaw was the son of James and Rose E McInaw, of Glasgow; husband of Jeanie T. M. McInaw, of Glasgow, he enlisted in the Seaforth Highlanders and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private McInaw successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 91, from 11 to 26 November 1943. His course report stated “Worked hard, done well, rather talkative”. He was posted to C Company, 8th Battalion, the Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Pte McInaw was killed in action on 17 June 1944, age 29, and was given a field burial at Herouvillette and re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France on 28 August 1945.
