Private James Mander

James Mander, the son of John and Sarah Ann Mander of Wallsend, Northumberland, enlisted into the Royal Artillery and volunteered for airbornes forces in late 1943.

He attended RAF Ringway for parachute course 94, which ran from 6 to 20 December 1943. Upon completion he was posted to the 9th (Essex) Parachute Battalion and took part in the D-Day landings to Normandy on 5-6 June 1944.

Pte Mander was killed in action on 6 June 1944, and buried in Ranville War Cemetery.
