Sergeant James Howe

James Howe was born and lived in Somerset, he enlisted in the Devonshire Regiment, and volunteered for Airborne Forces.

Sergeant Howe successfully completed glider training and was posted to 12th (Airborne) Battalion, Devonshire Regiment, and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Sgt Howe was killed in action on 24 March 1945, aged 27, and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln, Germany, and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery on 8 April 1947.
