Private James Hazlewood

James Hazlewood was the son of Tom and Alice Hazlewood and the husband of Vera Hazlewood, of Fawley, Yorkshire. He enlisted into The General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Hazlewood successfully completed his glider training and was posted to 7th (Airborne) Battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Hazlewood was killed in action on 18 September 1944, aged 24, and was given a field burial at Ginkel Heath, beside Verlengde Arnhemseweg and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 15 August 1945.
