Lance Corporal James E Crook

27 Mar 1945

James Edwin Crook was the son of David and Florence Annie (Battersby) Crook, of Preston, he enlisted in the General Service Corps, and volunteered for airborne forces.

Lance Corporal Crook successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway (Course number unknown), and was posted to Reconnaissance Corps, 6th (Airborne) Armoured Regiment, Royal Armoured Corps, and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

L/Cpl Crook was killed in action on 27 March 1945, aged 29, and was given a field burial at Brunen, Germany and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery on 30 April 1947.
