Private James Dinsmore

05 May 1946

James Dinsmore, son of John and Margaret Dinsmore of Falkirk, Stirlingshire, enlisted into the General Service Corps.

Private Dinsmore volunteered for airborne Forces whilst serving with the Royal Scots in May 1944.

He qualified as a military parachutist on course 123 which ran at RAF Ringway from 3 to 17 July 1944. The instructors’ report states: ‘Pte Dipsmore [sic] Hard working – confident & good parachutist.’

Private Dinsmore was initially posted to No2 Airborne Forces Holding Unit (AFHU) at Clay Cross near Chesterfield, before being posted to the 2nd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment (2 Para Bn).

He was later attached to the Defence Platoon, protecting the HQ of 5th Parachute Brigade and took part in the operation to the Far East.

Pte Dinsmore died on 5 May 1946, aged 21 years. He is now buried at Kranji War Cemetery, Singapore.
