Private Jack Simpson

Jack Simpson was the son of Frank and Emily Simpson, of Laisterdyke, Bradford, Yorkshire. He enlisted in the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Simpson successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 70 from 28 June to 9 July 1943.

His course report stated “A good man – jumps well”. He was posted to A Company, 2nd Battalion, the Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Simpson was killed in action by falling rubble from a collapsing house in the Arnhem Bridge area on 20 September 1944, aged 19, and was given a field burial near Oosterbeek station, and was reinterred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 20 December 1945.
