Lieutenant Jack H Elton-Tuckett

06 Jan 1943

Lieutenant Jack Helton Elton-Tuckett, son of J H Tuckett and Cynthia E Tuckett of Khartoum, Sudan served with 3rd Parachute Battalion. He took part in the North African campaign and was a member of A Company during their action on Green Hill (Djebel Azzag) on the 5th/6th January 1943.

In the late morning of 6th January it was reported that he went forward with an anti-tank rifle (presumably to try and get a machine gun post about which he had previously complained) - six anti-tank rounds were fired but this brought the fire from several machine guns into the 3rd Battalion positions and Elton-Tuckett and nine others were wounded. Lieutenant Elton-Tuckett fell in a very exposed position and efforts to bring him in resulted in failure. He was later hit again and killed. Efforts to recover his body were unsuccessful.

He died on 6 January 1943, aged 20 years old and he is now commemorated on the Medjez-el-Bab Memorial to the Missing, Tunisia.
