Jack Griffiths joined the Glider Pilot Regiment from the RAF, having been hooked on flying since the age of 13.
Sergeant Griffiths was in the first wave of gliders to land near the Bridge at Arnhem. Sgt Griffiths and his men were captured by the Germans and sent to POW camp Stalag Luft IVB near Leipzig.
As Allied troops drew near, Sgt Griffiths was one of a group who escaped the camp, meeting up with American troops at Torgau.
Jack Griffiths went on to fly DC3s and train military glider pilots at Lasham. He still flies gliders at the Norfolk Gliding Club, at the age of 92.
