Lance Corporal Ivor J Thomas

Ivor John Thomas was the son of Beatrice Every Thomas, of Croydon, Surrey, he enlisted in the East Surrey Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

L/Corporal Thomas successfully completed glider training and was posted to 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

L/Cpl Thomas was killed in action on 1 April 1945, aged 21, and was given a field burial at Huttrup, Germany, and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany on 23 May 1947.
