Sergeant Ian A Rogers

Sergeant Ian Albert Rogers served with Medium Machine Gun Platoon the 2nd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment (2 PARA).

31 year old Sgt Rogers was killed on 27 August 1979 at Warrenpoint, Northern Ireland by the second bomb detonated by the IRA that day. Members of the MMG Pln had arrived after an earlier explosion assist the wounded and dead.

Sgt ‘Drummie’ Rogers is buried in Bishopstoke Cemetery, Eastleigh.

It is worthy of note that he was an excellent Drum Major.
I still think of him with fond memories.

I served with Ian on boys service, he spent some leave with my family in Scotland, he was a good mate and I think of him often it's a tragedy he wasn't able to reach his full potential.
