Howard James Cutler was born on the 29th April 1950 in Bournemouth. 

After enlisting on the 4th May 1970, Private Cutler attended recruit training at Browning Barracks Aldershot with 356 Platoon. 

After passing out, Pte Cutler was posted to 1st Battalion, The Parachute Regiment. Whilst serving with 1 PARA, Pte Cutler did two tours of Northern Ireland, went on exercises in Denmark and Singapore and was posted in Berlin for two years before transferring to RAOC on 16th July 1976. After a posting at HQ BAOR S/Sgt Cutler was awarded the British Empire Medal on 31st December 1980. On 5th May 1989 he was appointed Conductor, the most senior appointment that can be held by a warrant officer in the British Army. 

With the RAOC he had postings to Germany, UK, Falklands and attachments to the Netherlands and Bosnia. He was commissioned from the ranks on 26th March 1990.  On the 5th April 1993 the Royal Army Ordnance Corps was amalgamated with a number of other corps to form the Royal Logistics Corps (RLC). 

Later in his service, Major Cutler was OC 131 Support Unit RLC merged both 131 and 132 Support Units into 132 Avn Supply Squadron RLC in September 1999. This coincided with the formation of 16 Air Assault Brigade.

Maj Cutler was posted to HQ UK Land Forces 1999 and retired from the Regular Army in 2002. 

He is now fully retired and living in Durrington, Wiltshire.

1 PARA posted to Montgomery Barracks, HQ Berlin Brigade 19 Aug 1974. Promoted CPL
31 December 1974.
Cpl Cutler then transferred to RAOC 16 July 1976.

Posted to HQ BAOR on 23 September 1976. Promoted SGT 16 November 1976.
Posted to the Logistic Executive (Army) and Promoted SSGT on 31 October 1980.
Awarded the BEM on 31 December 1980.
Promoted WO2 21 December 1983.
Posted to HQ British Forces Falkland Island (HQ BFFI) Emergency tour 8 February 1984
until 5 July 1984. Working with Major General Keith Spacie late para.
Posted to HQ 1 (BR) Corps 12 August 1984.
Posted to HQ BAOR 9 December 1985 and Promoted to WO1.
Appointed Conductor 5 May 1989.

Posted to 132 Aviation Supply unit RLC as Commanding Officer on 7 June 1999 to finalise
the merging of both 131 and 132 Aviation Supply units into 132 Aviation Supply Squadron
RLC as part of the newly formed 16 Air Assault Brigade completed 1 September 1999.
Posted to HQ LAND on 20 September 1999.
Retiring on from Regular Army in 25 October 2002.
