Gunner Hilary C Hewitt

Hilary Charles Hewitt was the son of John Charles Hilary and Kate Elizabeth Hewitt, of Oldbury, Worcestershire, he enlisted into the South Staffordshire Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Gunner Hewitt successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway and was posted to 3 Airlanding Anti-Tank Battery, Royal Artillery, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Gnr Hewitt was killed in action on 7 August 1944, aged 24, and was buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
