Lance Sergeant Herbert T Redmond

24 Mar 1945

Herbert Thomas Redmond was the son of William Joseph and Catherine Redmond, of Whetstone, Middlesex, he enlisted in the Royal Ulster Rifles and volunteered for airborne forces.

Lance Sergeant Redmond successfully completed glider training and was posted to 1st (Airborne) Battalion, Royal Ulster Rifles, and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

L/Sgt Redmond was killed in action on 24 March 1945, age 25, and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln, Germany, and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany, on 22 April 1947.
