Herbert Reginald Taylor was the son of George and Martha Taylor; husband of Ivy May Taylor (Bishop), of Southall, Middlesex, he enlisted in the York and Lancaster Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Taylor successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 69, from 21 June to 1 July 1943. His course report stated “Quiet, not very confident”.
He was posted to HQ Company, 12th (10th Battalion, the Green Howards [Yorkshire Regiment]) Battalion, the Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).
Pte Taylor was killed in action on 9 June 1944, aged 31, and was given a field burial near Longueval, and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France on 12 June 1945.
