Private Herbert Nixon, son of Mark and Eleanor Shuttleworth Nixon, of Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester, served with 11th Parachute Battalion. He took part in the Battle of Arnhem, during Op Market Garden.
Private Nixon died on 20 September 1944, aged 20 years old. He is now commemorated on the Memorial at Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery, near Nijmegen.
