Private Herbert G Littlejohns

Herbert George Littlejohns was the adopted son and grandson of John and Sarah Ellen Littlejohns, of Hartland, Devon; husband of Gladys Bessie Littlejohns, of Hartland, Devon; he enlisted in the Devonshire Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Littlejohns successfully completed glider training and was posted to the 12th (Airborne) Battalion, Devonshire Regiment, and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Pte Littlejohns was killed in action on 24 March 1945, age 30, and was given a field burial at Dingden, Germany and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery on 16 January 1947.
