Major Henry R Hill

Henry Ralph Hill, of Behar, India was the son of James Leslie and Susan Hill and the husband of Barbara Hill, of Camberley. He was commissioned into The King’s Own Scottish Borderers and volunteered for airborne forces.

Major Hill successfully completed his glider training and was posted to command Support Company, 7th (Airborne) Battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Maj Hill was killed in action, aged 38, on 18 September 1944 and was given a field burial in woods beside the Renkumse Beek brook, south of the A12, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 22 September 1945.
