Private Henry G Learmonth

02 May 1945

Henry George Learmonth was the son of Henry George and Rose Learmonth, of Edinburgh. He enlisted in the Hampshire Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Learmonth successfully completed his glider training, and was posted to 7th (Airborne) Battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers and took part in operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Learmonth died on 2 May 1945, aged 28, whilst a POW in Germany and was given a field burial in the Friedrichsruh Cemetery and was re-interred to Hamburg War Cemetery on 29 May 1947.
