Private Harry Rhodes

Harry Rhodes was the son of Harry and Mary Rhodes, of Middleton, Manchester.

He enlisted in the Lancashire Fusiliers and volunteered for airborne forces. Private Rhodes successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 21/22 in August 1942 and was posted to B Company, 3rd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Rhodes was killed in action on 18 September 1944, aged 25, and was given a field burial in the Arnhem Communal Roman Catholic Cemetery, and was reinterred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 27 August 1945.
