Gunner Harry Higginson

21 Sep 1944

Harry Higginson was the son of Walter and Charlotte Higginson; stepson of Katherine J Higginson. He enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Gunner Higginson successfully completed parachute training and was posted to 1 Forward Observation Unit (Airborne), Royal Artillery, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Gnr Higginson was killed in action on 21 September 1944, aged 20. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.

He is believed to have been the wireless operator of FOO (Forward Observation Officer) Capt. S. B. Birchmore, who was attached to 1st Battalion, The Border Regiment.
