Lance Corporal Harry F Steward

01 Oct 1918 - 24 Mar 1945

Harry Frederick Steward was the son of Charles Edward and Annie Louisa (Cleversley) Steward, of Greenwich, London, he enlisted in the Dorsetshire Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Lance Corporal Steward successfully completed glider training and was posted to 12th (Airborne) Battalion, Devonshire Regiment and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

L/Cpl Steward was killed in action on 24 March 1945, age 26, and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln, Germany, and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany on 24 April 1947.
