Harrold Wood

Harrold Wood was the son of Frank and Eliza Wood and the husband of Joan Wood. He enlisted into the Royal Artillery and volunteered for airborne forces.

Sergeant Wood successfully completed Glider Pilot training and was posted to E Squadron, 2nd Wing, The Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Sgt Wood was killed in action between 18 and 25 September 1944, aged 22, after landing his Horsa glider (Chalk Number 128) on Johannahoeve and was given a field burial in a mass grave near Sonnenberg House, Oosterbeek. He was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 20 August 1945.
