Sergeant Harold H Spencer

Harold Herbert Spencer was the son of Herbert and Gertred Spencer and the husband of Rose Spencer, of New Cross, London. He enlisted in the Royal Army Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Sergeant Spencer successfully completed his glider pilot training and was posted to E Squadron, 2nd Wing, The Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Sgt Spencer was killed in action on the 18 September 1944, aged 30, and was given a field burial in front of the Tafelberg Hotel. He was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 3 September 1945.
