Sergeant Harold Deighton

Harold Deighton was the son of George and Sarah Deighton of The Fleece Inn, Brough, Westmorland, he enlisted into the Border Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Sergeant Deighton served with 1 (Airborne) Battalion, Border Regiment.

He saw active service on Operation Market Garden with 28 MMG Platoon, Support Company and became a Prisoner of War, being sent to Stalag XIIA Limburg Germany.

Sgt Deighton died in the camp hospital on 4 April 1945 and is now buried in Hanover War Cemetery, Germany.
