Private Gwyn Jones

Gwyn Jones, son of Mr and Mrs J O Jones and husband of K Jones, of Ashby, Lincolnshire. He was formerly in 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment), and then volunteered for the airborne forces.

Private Jones qualified as a military parachutist on course 21/22  at RAF Ringway in August 1942. He was then posted to the 2nd Parachute Battalion, and took part in Operation Torch in North Africa.

Pte Jones died, whilst a Prisoner of War, between 30 November 1942 and 13 January 1943, age 30. He is commemorated on the Medjez-El-Bab memorial.
