Sergeant Graham Painter

Graham Painter was the son of Mr and Mrs R F Painter, of West Worthing, Sussex. He enlisted in the Royal Artillery and volunteered for airborne forces.

Sergeant Painter successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway and also Glider Pilot training and was posted to B Squadron, The Glider Pilot Regiment. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Sgt Painter was killed in action, aged 22, between 25 and 26 September 1944. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
