Private Graham J Carter

04 Jun 1971 - 21 Nov 1997

The following obituary was reported in the Pegasus Journal dated June 1998:

"The Pathfinder Platoon sadly records the death of Pte Graham John Carter who tragically died in a road accident on the M6 on Fri 21 Nov 97.

Graham was born in Missassauga, Ontario (Canada), on 4 Jun 1971. He was educated in Canada and finished college in 1992 prior to embarking on a career in photography, a desire which led him to South East Asia and around most of the world.

During his travels he came to England and stayed with relatives. It was at this point that he decided to pursue a career within the British Parachute Regiment. He enlisted on 7 Jan 94 and found himself being whisked off to ATR Lichfield to start his Basic Military Course.

Graham successfully passed out and was posted to 1 PARA in July 94. He served for a year and a half with 1 PARA before requesting to attend the Pathfinder Selection Cadre which he successfully completed.

During his time in the Pathfinders, Graham accomplished a lot: MFF Grade 1, International Recognition Specialist, JSRCP and Sniper, to name but a few of the many qualifications he held.

Graham was an intelligent and private man, quiet by nature but in the close-knit environment of the Platoon he was a popular figure who was respected by his peers for his professional and natural abilities.

Graham was repatriated to Canada on 1 Dec 97, later to be laid to rest in Missassauga Cemetery on 5 Dec 97. It is difficult to find words to express the loss this has been. He was a young man with a wealth of qualities and an abundance of natural flair and ability. He will be fondly remembered, sadly missed but never forgotten.

We are they who come faster than fate; we are they who ride early or late; we storm at the Ivory Gate. Pale Kings of Sunset, beware.
