Private Gordon J G Wright

Private Gordon John Goodwin Wright, son of George G and Edith Wright, of Stone, Staffordshire, originally enlisted in the South Staffordshire Regiment, before transferring to 3rd Parachute Battalion. He took part in the Battle of Arnhem, during Op Market Garden.

Private Wright drowned during the attempt to cross the Lower Rhine during the evacuation on the British 1st Airborne Division. He died on 26 September 1944, aged 25 years old.  His body was recovered from the River Lek on 7 April 1945, and subsequently buried in Wijk-bij-Duurstede General Cemetery, Utrecht.
