Private George Wood

28 Mar 1943

George Wood enlisted into the Grenadier Guards before volunteering for airborne forces.

Private Wood successfully completed his training at Ringway on advanced course 1 from 4 to 11 January 1942 and was posted to S Company, 1st Battalion The Parachute Regiment.

He went with the battalion on Operation Torch in North Africa.

Pte Wood was killed in action on 28 March 1943, at Djebel Abiod and was given a field burial. He was re-interred in Beja War Cemetery, Tunisia, on 25 February 1944.
