Private George H Westcott

George Henry Westcott was the son of Henry and Maria (Lott) Westcott, of Tiverton, Devon; husband of Ruth Olga (Lane) Westcott, of Tiverton, Devon. Married on 10 June 1942. George enlisted in the Devonshire Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Westcott successfully completed glider training and was posted to 12th (Airborne) Battalion, Devonshire Regiment and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Pte Westcott was killed in action on 1 April 1945, aged 31, and was given a field burial at Greven, Germany, and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany on 23 May 1947.
