Private George H Taylor

George Harry Taylor was the son of Harry and Clara Taylor, of Lye, Stourbridge, Worcestershire, he enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Taylor successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 78, from 14 to 24 August 1943. His course report stated “Has worked hard, has confidence, a good standard”. He was posted to B Company, 8th Battalion, the Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Pte Taylor was killed in action on 30 June 1944, aged 22, and was given a field burial at Le Prieure, and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France on 25 October 1945.
