Gunner George Gray

George Gray, son of George and Isabelle Gray; husband of Constance Gray, of Gosforth, Newcastle-on-Tyne, enlisted in the Royal Artillery and volunteered for airborne forces.

Gnr Gray successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 23 from 17 to 23 August 1942 and was posted to 1 Airlanding Light Regiment, Royal Artillery, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Gnr Gray was killed in action, aged 25, on 20 September 1944 and was given a field burial in an isolated mass grave beside a field in Oosterbeek, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 28 August 1945.
