George Gorse Johnson worked as a cowman when he enlisted into 14th Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment in July 1940.

He transferred to the Royal Artillery (RA) and posted to 103 Anti-Tank Regt RA in December 1942.

Gunner Johnson then volunteered for airborne forces and joined the 3rd Air Landing Anti-tank Battery, RA and who he served with form July 1943 until his demob in March 1946.

This soldier joined up at Hereford Racecours July 1940 with my father They were under canvas with no rifles Then they went to guard the beach at Gt Yarmouth End of 1042 disbanded and became 103 anti tank reg. They went to Invareary Scotlan trained in Mt warfare and disbanded Aug 1943 My father trained at gun range Harlech Wles and went to Normany 10 days after D Day from Tilbury
