Sergeant George E Thomas

George Edward Thomas was the son of George and May Thomas and the husband of Frances Thomas, of Cinderford, Gloucestershire. He enlisted in the Royal Artillery and volunteered for airborne forces.

Sergeant Thomas successfully completed his parachute training, on elementary course number 14 at RAF Ringway, from 18 to 31 May 1942, and was posted to D Troop, 1 Airlanding Anti-Tank Regiment, Royal Artillery, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Sgt Thomas was killed in action on 26 September 1944, aged 34, and was given a field burial in the garden of the Ter Horst family, Benedendorpsweg, Oosterbeek. He was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 6 August 1945.
