Lieutenant George Alexander Maginnis

George Alexander Maginnis was the son of Edward and Matilda Maginnis, of Aughnacloy, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, he was granted a commission and volunteered for airborne forces.

Lieutenant Maginnis successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 14, from 25 May to 4 June 1942, and was posted to Attack Platoon, 1st (Airborne) Battalion, Royal Ulster Rifles, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Lt Maginnis was killed in action on 18 July 1944, aged 33, and was buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
