Sergeant Geoffrey Lawson

Geoffrey Lawson was the son of Percy and Margaret Lawson and the husband of Elise Lawson. He enlisted into the Royal Berkshire Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Sergeant Lawson successfully completed his glider pilot training and was posted to B Squadron, 1st Wing, The Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Sgt Lawson is in a German photograph showing him east of the Rhine Bridge at Arnhem, when he is being transported on a stretcher as a POW (Battle of Arnhem ROH, 5th revised edition, 2011). He died on 18 September 1944, aged 24, and was buried in the Arnhem Roman Catholic Communal Cemetery. He was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 27 August 1945.
