After completing his training at Sandhurst, Geoffrey Brierley was commissioned into the Dorset Regiment, later amalgamated as the Devon and Dorsets. and transferred into PARA in 1964.
He was IO 1 PARA in Cyprus in 1964 before staff training in USA. He commanded D (Ptl) Coy 1 PARA in Aden.
He was then appointed BM 44 PARA Bde (V) 1968-70. GSO1 AB/SF UKLF 1974-6 followed by GSO1 Plans (O) JW UKLF in 1976.
He was CO 1 PARA 1976-9.
He was later Comd CMAT Ghana, retiring from the Army in 1988, taking up the appointment of TAVRA Sec in Northern Ireland before finally retiring to Dorset where he was very active on the County & Local Councils.
His wife Veronica survives him.
